How triangular snowflakes form is largely a mystery. Based on your knowledge of the molecular structure of water, how do you think triangular structures form? What about tubular ice crystals?

Just discovered this question and am fascinated by it. I remember writing an essay on water when I was at school and being fascinated by how its polar structure gave it these amazing properties like surface tension and expansion on freezing. I am hoping to write an article in Chemistry on this so I'll look into triangular snowflakes.

Sorry to be no further help,

Water has some amazing properties. I had a discussion once with planetary scientist Jay Melosh about how the bizarre properties of water make carbon life possible. If water weren't so weird, we wouldn't be around!

Absolutely!

In my article I have only scratched the surface of the topic. Also when the site allows more images I can show it clearer with diagrams!
