Hurricanes

The weather is an interesting distraction from other news at the moment, though typhoon Saomai is pounding China right now.

I thought I would take a look at what makes hurricanes tick. Hurricanes have been in the news a lot the past couple of years, and many people have taken an interest in them. I think it is important to know under what conditions they form. I also think it is important that people be aware of how dangerous they are. It still boggles my mind whenever the TV news reports on people who adamantly refuse to leave their house even with a category 5 storm bear directly down at them. Come on! I'd be out of the area days in advance. Luckily though, I live in Arizona, a place that seldom gets hit by Pacific hurricanes - though it can happen. Then again, I live in sight of a dormant volcano.
