Is John Searl a hoaxer or visionary? Searl built a machine in the 1960s that hovered like a flying saucer and drew its power out of thin air, so he claimed.
British inventor John Searl has been called a genius; he’s also been called a nutbar.
The Searl Effect Generator (SEG), described on Searl’s several websites, consisted of three concentric rings each made of a composite of four different materials. The three rings were fixed to a base. Surrounding each of the rings, and free to rotate around them, were rollers - typically 10 on the first ring, 25 on the next, and 35 on the outer ring. Surrounding the rollers on the outer ring were coils that were connected in various configurations to supply either AC or DC current at a variety of voltages.
Free Energy Travel
At low speeds, Mr. Searl claimed that the SEG produced electrical power by absorbing it from the surrounding environment and transmitting it through the roller and ring arrangement to collectors.
When the speed increased past a certain point, the claim was that the apparatus became a superconductor that created an enormous antigravity effect. This antigravity effect was supposed to be what made Mr. Searl’s machine appear to hover.
But, the inventor said the SEG could do more than hover. According to a March 5, 1978 report in the London Sunday Times, “It is provisionally scheduled to fly from Reading [England] to Auckland [New Zealand] later this year – in 30 minutes. To save agonizing mental arithmetic, this home-made UFO would have to travel at 23,000 mph or about 19 times the speed of Concorde.”
The Science Is Questioned
Gunnar Sandberg of the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences at the University of Sussex in England said in a report that the hovering was more likely achieved by hanging the SEG from a wire so it could be photographed as appearing to be suspended in space. Sandberg said he got this information from one of Searl’s sons.
In April 1991, a Danish engineer, Anders Heerfordt, also questioned Searl’s technology. He said he asked Searl to demonstrate his SEG device or to put him in touch with people who had witnessed a hovering flight. Heerfordt drew a blank on both requests.
Searl went ballistic and posted a rebuttal to Anders Heerfordt’s conclusions on his website. It is almost incoherent and mostly engages in character assassination aimed at those who question the inventor’s brilliance.
Deluded or a Genius?
His prototypes worked fine says Searl, but somehow they have gone missing. Then, there was an unfortunate house fire and the notes and drawings went up in smoke. Heerfordt says he was able to discover no evidence of a fire.
John Searl calls himself “Professor” but has never produced evidence of a doctorate in any discipline. He’s also been in a spot of bother with the law. On 26 November 1982, The Times reported that John Searl entered a guilty plea to charges he tried to topple some electricity pylons using a chainsaw and hacksaw. Searl was angry at the electricity utility because he was being charged with stealing power by bypassing his house meter.
Whether or not Searl actually believes in his invention only he knows. He is certainly passionate about, running many websites extolling its virtues. He’s also trying to drum up donations so he can continue his research. Now in his late 70s, John Searl has spent almost his entire life devoted to his Searl Effect Generator to no discernible effect.

i have been aware of prof.searls work for quite some times, i have followed
it to point that i have actually made a replica of the generator. on my
previous post i said that at the time he made his first machine, it was
quite expensive, etc. today however, the same material can be produced and
bought at a fraction of the cost. The sintering process, has advanced
leaps and bounds since its infant stage in those days. Hence, prof. searl
has a new and improved version of his generator flying machine! As i said i
have followed his work to the extent of making a replica, and yes it spins
to my delight as i watch it go round and around!Oh Boy! NOW WHAT! give it
more juice and it goes faster, big deal! yes it generates but so do a
multitude of mag generators on the market to : EVEN GENERATORS THAT DONT
MOVE!ELECTRIAL BOARDS, WITH SIMPLE WIRING AND CURCITS. ( CLAIMS OF DOUBLE
TO INFINIT POWER GRIDS.) but only one said it could fly!!!! SOOOOO WHATS UP
WITH SEARLS MACHINE?? If raising money was the problem it would seem to me
that a man this smart would have know that calling a small audience of
Politicians and world leaders and don't forget the media,to a location such
as,AT the UN, and while everyone waited for him to walk in, He would FLY IN
!!! i am positive that an entrance like that WOULD GARANTY ANY FUNDING HHE
WOULD ASK FOR AND ESPEICALLY IF HE WAS GIVING TO MANKIND A BETTER WAY OF
LIFE! SO AS I REV OP MY MACHINE, AND WAIT TO JUMP ON IT FOR A RIDE. I CANT
HELP BUT WONDER JUST WHO IS TAKING WHOM FOR A RIDE! OR MAYBE I COULD
CONTACT HIM, BUT AGAIN PROF. SEARL VANISHED, I GUESS HE TOOK A TRIP ON ONE
OF HIS MACHINES!!!

I think our previous guest comments have made faults assumptions regarding
the SEG. He assumes the SEG is just a collection of magnets, which
ofcourse it is not. Everyone else knows better than that by actually
reading what is in web site. The SEG actually consists of four materials
layers that said to function as a solid-state diode, which in effect
rectifies energy of the election motion at the quantum level to produce
electrical power. Therefore, anybody that claims to have reproduced the SEG
with no layer of elements is clearly talking bogus!!! The only
legitimate efforts to reproduce the SEG that I know of, is taking place in
Thailand by the associates of Prof. Searl and we can see their progress
along with progress updates at their searlsolution website.

That last post is just dumb and clearly are NOT well aware of Prof. Searl's
generator, it NOT make of simple magnets, but rather magnetic components of
four material layers of elements that makes up the plates and rollers.
Therefore, this guy that claims to have reproduced the SEG does not know
what his is talking about; better read what is clearly stated at the
searlsolution website and lets not make such stupid assumptions about the
SEG but learn from it instead.

You can see is NOT well aware of Prof. Searl
(SEG) generator because it is NOT made of simple magnets, but rather
magnetic components made of four material cylindrical elements in layers,
which is what makes up the plates and rollers. Further it requires a
special magnetizer you not buy on the market and is expensive to build even
for a company budget. Therefore, that person’s claims to have reproduced
the SEG just bogus talk!!! Anybody with a PC can check out the website and
see SEG assembly of parts is not something you buy at magnet store.
The only legitimate efforts to reproduce the SEG that I know of, is
taking place in Thailand by the associates of Prof. Searl and we can see
their progress along with updates from their searlsolution website.
